WORKSHOP ON WORKPLACE NEGOTIATIONS AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

In light of Malawi’s ongoing economic challenges and the resulting tensions on remuneration demands between management and workers, The Employers’ Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) is pleased to announce a workshop on Workplace Negotiations and Collective Bargaining to be held on the 26th – 27th June 2025 from 8:30 AM on both days, the venue will be Advised, Blantyre. This workshop aims to equip employers with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of worker demands and reach mutually beneficial agreements.

Facilitators

  • Ministry of Labour
  • Professor L. Dzimbiri A seasoned management expert in industrial relations, education, training and research; current Board Chairperson of the Malawi School of Government and former Head of Department and Vice Principal of the University of Malawi.

Who Should Attend:

The workshop is designed for CEO’s, human resource practitioners, union/employee representatives, managers, and other stakeholders involved in workplace negotiations.

Topics to be covered

  1. Legal frameworks

International Labour Conventions; The Malawi Constitution; The Labour Relations Act(1996); The Labour Relations Act Amendment Act (2021)

 

  1. Foundations of Workplace Negotiations

Introduction to Negotiations; Communication and Conflict Resolution; Negotiation Strategies and Tactics; case Studies and Role-Playing Exercises

 

  1. Collective Bargaining and Agreement Implementation

Planning and Conducting Bargaining Sessions; Effective Bargaining Techniques; Enforcing and Monitoring Agreements
