Employers of the Year Awards – EYA

Employers of the Year Awards-EYA is an initiative by the Employers’ Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) that is geared towards promoting and encouraging best labour practices amongst employers in Malawi.

This initiative aims to raise and sustain productivity, inculcate responsible business conduct that contributes to compliance with national laws and international conventions, and promote decent work in the world of work.

With 14 Categories to choose from and 36 awards to be given out, there is an opportunity for every company to win an award. Not only will your company be in the spotlight and be accorded the prestige it deserves, but you will also have the chance to connect with other business leaders and make valuable connections while promoting your team.

Also, category considerations and selection of winners will take into account the level of compliance with appropriate laws; the extent and quality of training for employees; achievements of the business and your employees that can be attributed to the employer; employer’s commitment and integration of training into business planning, innovative approaches and excellence in design and delivery of service/trainings;  commitment to equity including deliberate efforts for underrepresented groups in employment; and commitment to addressing the root causes of child labour among others.  The categories that members will compete in are as follows:

  7. Elimination of Child Labour

  9. Workplace Health and Wellness
  10. Social Protection
  11. Corporate Social Responsibility
  12. Largest Employer
  13. Second Largest Employer
  14. Overall Employer of the Year
  1. Participation is open to all ECAM paid up members
  2. The minimum number of categories of participation is six (3 of which include Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Labour Law Compliance).
  3. Participation will be considered when filled questionnaires are submitted on time.
  4. Every entrant will identify a Contact Person and he or she will promptly respond as requested or required.
  5. Employers are expected to provide explanations and attach necessary evidence and materials to enable the Jury Committee to make sound judgments and fair evaluations. Evidence can be in the form of documents, pictures, presentations, video clips, social media posts, etc.
  6. The Independent Jury Committee will conduct a Questionnaire review, Data verification (Physical Visits), Data analysis and Selection of winners.
  7. All participating employers will be required to be present at the gala dinner where the winners will be announced.
  8. The Jury Committee and ECAM Board of Management shall be required to execute a Declaration of Confidentiality until the Awards Night.
